I read this book because I've been enchanted by the music of the Band since a young teen, in '68. Taplin was there, where I and so many others wanted to be, hanging with Helm, Robertson and Dylan. The author grew to be so much more, and to be an important fixture in American film and later in finance. And he's educated, reflective, thoughtful, and importantly to me, has never abandoned his liberal inclinations. This is a good read. And Taplin has important things to say about the role of music, film and art to help save this country from techno creeps and fascist politics.
