A wonderful follow-up to the first book. Three years have passed and Nic is now a Lt. Colonel. She, Claire and Grace are just getting their lives on track as a family when she is once again deployed to Afghanistan where she's severely injured and doesn't want her family back home to see her this way. That doesn't stop Claire who immediately is by her side, through her most horrific days.This author depicts Nic's vulnerability and insecurity so well as she fights to heal and really shows the strong love, compassion and commitment from Claire. The reader can truly feel all of their emotions and struggles. These military families sacrifice so much for our freedom. At times I had tears just coursing down my cheeks while reading this book. It's such an eye opener!It's clear that Isabella writes from her heart. It's a tremendous story, full of all the "feels," with wonderful descriptions - I could actually feel the sand and grit when Nic was in Afghanistan and I could feel the love, agony and determination from both Nic and Claire. However, as a teacher, I cannot accept the poor mechanics of writing that fill this book with terrible grammar, spelling and editing errors. Please, Isabella, I wholeheartedly encourage you to get a proofreader. You are too good a storyteller to let your manuscripts stand like this!
